Francis J. Lorango Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Francis J. Lorango, affectionately known as “Frankie,” on Monday, November 13, 2023. At the age of 97, Frankie peacefully left this world in North Tonawanda. He was the former husband of Martha Keller Lorango and the loving fiancé of Anne Trane. Frankie was a cherished father to Nancy Hook and Gene F. Lorango, and a proud grandfather to Jennifer, Megan, Blake, and Angeline. He also had the joy of being a great-grandfather to Lianna, Ryland, Arlo, Lukas, and Oscar. Frankie will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.

Death and Family

Frankie’s passing has left a void in the hearts of his loved ones. He was a beloved brother to Mary Vincent Lorango and is survived by several cousins and a nephew. His family and friends gathered to pay their respects at the Brunner Funeral Home in North Tonawanda. A Memorial Mass with Military Honors was held at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish, where Frankie was remembered and honored for his remarkable life. He was laid to rest in a private burial at Elmlawn Cemetery, surrounded by the love and memories of those who cherished him.

Professional Life and Accomplishments

Frankie’s professional journey was marked by his passion for bicycles. After serving as a Seaman First Class in the US Navy during World War II, he became a Huffy and Schwinn bike dealer. For nearly four decades, Frankie’s Twin City Cyclery served the community of Tonawanda. In addition to his bike shop, Frankie also owned a slot car shop, ceramic studio, Frankie’s Fast Speedway, and a hobby shop. His dedication to his craft and his commitment to providing quality service made him a respected figure in the industry.

Community Involvement and Hobbies

Frankie’s impact extended beyond his professional life. He was the director of the SUGAR & JAZZ Orchestra, where he played a vital role in helping local students appreciate and embrace the “Big Band Sound.” Frankie’s passion for music and his dedication to teaching inspired countless middle and high school students. Alongside his former wife, Martie, he spent countless hours on band practice, performances, and educational excursions. Their compassionate and firm guidance created a joyful and community-focused environment for young musicians to develop their skills.

Outside of his musical endeavors, Frankie was actively involved in his community. He served as the president of the Tonawanda Exchange Club on two occasions and held the position of president in the WNY National Bicycle Dealers Association. In recognition of his outstanding leadership and dedication, the Tonawanda Chamber of Commerce named him Citizen of the Year in 2000. Frankie’s commitment to his community and his passion for making a difference were truly commendable.
